Far Cry 3 was the first time Dan Hay worked for the FAR Cry series — a strong impression, given the reception reserved for this title. Since then, he has helped Ubisoft out of the tons of other Far Cry titles, including Blood Dragon and Far Cry 5. But tomorrow, November 12, marks the last day of Dan Hay in Ubisoft Montreal. It s the end of an era for the Far Cry series, and it will be interesting to see how the series will evolve in its absence.
Dan Hay has not yet said where his journey takes him after Far Cry, although if his curriculum vitae is something, it is safe to do something spectacular.
This news occurs ongoing controversy in the walls of Ubisoft Montreal — mainly concerned about allegations of harassment at work and apparently inadequate tools to obtain justice. A few days ago, Ubisoft has promised universal salary increases in its Montreal establishment. But despite considerably higher salary increases for senior executives, they were not enough to keep Dan Hay on board.
Although a link between these events is certainly possible (developers have left other studios for similar reasons in the past), these suspects can not be confirmed. Hay did not speak publicly of his departure, although a spokesman for Ubisoft had some things to say:
After more than 10 years at Ubisoft, Dan Hay has announced that he would start a new chapter of his professional life and leave on November 12. Dan was the executive director of Far Cry and has developed an incredible multi-team disciplined to produce what has become one of the most popular games in Ubisoft s history. Although Dan did not announce where his way leads him, we are convinced that he will offer him the new challenges and experiences he is looking for and deserves. We thank Dan for its many contributions over the years and hope for the best for the future. In the meantime, the brand team will be led by Sandra Warren in Montreal as well as a team of very competent producers and directors, in addition to continuing its collaborations with several other studios around the world.
